Annual Meeting and Guest Speaker
Tuesday, June 15, 7:00pm on Zoom
We cannot come together at Choate for our favorite event of the year, but we will come together on Zoom to conduct some club business, meet outstanding current and future Harvard students and hear a fascinating talk from Professor Phil Deloria, Chair of the History and Literature Department.
Annual Meeting Agenda
- Club Financial and Investment Report
- Schools Committee Report on the Class of 2025
- Introduction of 2021 Summer Community Fellowship Recipients
- Election of Club Directors and Officers
- Presentation by Guest Speaker, Professor Deloria, on the following subject:
Lenape: Imagining the Indigenous States of America
The 1778 Treaty of Fort Pitt contains an unusual provision: that the Delaware nation might take leadership of an Indian state, to be integrated on an equal footing with the original thirteen states into the American union. It goes without saying that the Delaware state did not come to be—but what it if had? A counterfactual history of the state of Lenape winds through a fascinating historical landscape: the War for Independence, Native American students at Harvard and Princeton, the constitutional convention of the Indian Territory state of Sequoyah, and the contemporary discussions of social justice, reparations, and historical memory.
RSVP below. The Zoom link is listed below and will be resent on the afternoon of the event.
We look forward to seeing a great group of alumni on June 15.
