professor glenn cohen - jan 24, 7-8pm

Please join the Harvard Clubs of Fairfield County, Southern Connecticut and Western New York on January 24 for a virtual talk with Professor I. Glenn Cohen on "AI in Medicine: Legal and Ethical Issues"!

The world is paying increasing attention to the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially machine learning (ML), into health care.  Some of the talk is hope, some of it is hype, but some of it is already being introduced into clinical care.  Professor Cohen will give us a general overview of the legal and ethical issues raised by this trend.

We are grateful to the HAA for arranging this special opportunity.

Professor Cohen is one of the world’s leading experts on the intersection of bioethics (sometimes also called “medical ethics”) and the law, as well as health law.  He is Deputy Dean of Harvard Law School and Faculty Director of the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law, Policy, Biotechnology & Bioethics.  Professor Cohen has lectured to legal, medical, and industry conferences around the world, and his award-winning work has appeared in leading legal, medical, bioethics, scientific and public health journals.  His work has been frequently covered by or appeared in media venues such as PBS, NPR, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, the New York Times, The Washington Post and the Boston Globe.

A 2003 graduate of Harvard Law School, Professor Cohen was the youngest professor on the HLS faculty (tenured or untenured) both when he joined the faculty in 2008 (at age 29) and when he was tenured as a full professor in 2013 (at age 34), though not the youngest in history.  He was a 2012-2013 Radcliffe Institute Fellow and was a recipient of a Faculty Scholar Award in Bioethics from the Greenwall Foundation. For his law school teaching he was awarded the HLS Student Government Teaching and Advising Award in 2017.
